The Best Hindi Movies For Kids on Amazon Prime Right Now (Updated)

Whether we like it or not, kids love watching movies — so why not turn that screen time into a fun language-learning opportunity? Fortunately, Amazon Prime in the U.S. has a great lineup of Hindi films that are kid-friendly, entertaining, and perfect for family viewing.

If your kids are beginners, hearing Hindi regularly helps them recognize sounds and pick out familiar words. And if they already speak some Hindi at home, watching films helps keep the language fresh, lively, and relevant.

Subtitles or No Subtitles?

As someone who has taught Hindi for many years, my answer is always YES to English subtitles. Some purists might disagree, but I believe enjoying the movie matters more than forcing full comprehension. When kids feel pressured, the experience becomes “homework,” and that kills motivation. But when they’re having fun, they naturally absorb vocabulary and context — without even realizing they’re learning.

So here’s an updated list of Hindi movies on Amazon Prime U.S. that your kids can enjoy right now.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

This movie centers around a little girl, Anjali, who plays matchmaker between her father (Shah Rukh Khan) and his college best friend also named Anjali (Kajol). In order to match them up, Anjali goes to a hill-station summer camp filled with fun characters including her dadi (grandmother), a sweet little boy, and a zany camp director (played by Johnny Lever).

Intermixed with flashbacks from their college days, this film has light hearted humor, joy, heartbreak and romance. It is everything you look for in a Bollywood film. Of course, the music is phenomenal too!

Student of the Year

Student of the Year is full of music, dancing, friendship, and love. All the elements that make Bollywood so much fun for younger viewers! It follows three students (Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, and Alia Bhatt) navigating rivalries and big dreams, all set against the backdrop of a glamorous high school. And it features one of the catchiest songs in recent Bollywood history: “Radha”.

While it does include some teen themes, its upbeat tone and lively soundtrack make it perfect for families with older kids and pre-teens.

Kal Ho Naa Ho

Kal Ho Naa Ho follows Naina (Preity Zinta), a serious-minded young woman living in New York, whose life changes when a charming and mysterious neighbor, Aman (Shah Rukh Khan), enters her world. Set in the U.S., the film mixes humor, romance, and emotion in a story that is both uplifting and funny.

The movie features iconic songs like “Kal Ho Naa Ho,” “Maahi Ve,” “It’s The Time To Disco” and (my personal favorite) “Pretty Woman”. And of course, it is one of Shah Rukh Khan’s most beloved and iconic performances.

Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.

Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. stars Sanjay Dutt as Munna, a lovable gangster who decides to pursue medical school in order to fulfill his father’s dream. Munna brings his own hilarious and chaotic style to the hospital environment, while discovering compassion and purpose.

This is one of Bollywood’s most universally loved comedies. It showcases a fun colloquial style Mumbai Hindi which is fun to imitate (__ bole toh?). If your family is looking for big laughs, check out Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.!

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt as a couple from completely different worlds. The movie blends comedy, romance, and high-voltage drama as Rocky and Rani attempt to win over each other’s eccentric families.

The film is a great pick for families because it’s colorful, engaging, and packed with memorable songs like “What Jhumka?” and (my daughter’s favorite) “Saregama Carvaan Medley” which has old songs grandparents and kids can sing together.

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

K3G. That’s what I’ve always called it. An epic family saga starring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, and Kareena Kapoor. The story spans decades and multiple continents. It is, quite simply, one of the most iconic movies in Bollywood history!

While some parts of the story are a little heavy, I was drawn to this film as a kid because of the songs (like “Bole Chudiyan” and “You Are My Soniya”) and the larger than life characters (I’m looking at you, Poo!). So pop some popcorn and cuddle up for one of Bollywood’s most beloved movies.

Param Sundari

Param Sundari, the newest movie on the list, is the story of Param (Sidharth Malhotra) a boy from New Delhi who, searching for his soulmate via an AI app, travels to Kerala to meet Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor). Soon their worlds collide and love starts to blossom.

This movie is filled with music, laughs, and romance, and it feels like a throw-back to the big fun Hindi rom-coms we grew up watching!

Singh Is Kinng

Singh Is Kinng stars Akshay Kumar as Happy Singh, a well-meaning troublemaker whose misadventures take him from Punjab to Australia and quickly spiral into chaos involving mistaken identities and action-packed comedy.

The film is a lively, silly, joyful watch, perfect for families who want a fun, easygoing movie. Catchy songs like “Teri Ore” and “Jee Karda” are fan favorites, and the film's humor makes it especially enjoyable for kids who love slapstick comedy.

Maine Pyar Kiya

This film is a classic and I watched it on repeat growing up. It’s a sweet story of two friends (Salman Khan and Bhagyashree) who fall in love, only to face family pressures that threaten to pull them apart.

This is one of the great Bollywood love stories of the 90s, and kids today will still get a kick out of its child-like characters, catchy soundtrack and simple, heartfelt storytelling. Bonus: there is a song "Kabutar Jaa" about a mail delivering pigeon, which is always a hit with kids (especially those like us from the 80s and 90s haha).
