Top 10 Hindi Movies For Kids on Amazon Prime
Are you looking for good, wholesome Hindi/Bollywood movies to watch with your child? You’re in the right place!
I have compiled a list of iconic, classic Hindi films on Amazon Prime, that not only will help your child hear lots of Hindi, but also get a feel for what South Asia is like. The food they eat, the culture, customs and more. It also, doesn't hurt that most of these have fantastic songs, that kids will love to watch:).
Here is a list of the top 10 Hindi Movies for Kids on Amazon Prime!
1. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
Perhaps the most iconic Hindi movie since Sholay, this movie has everything you want from a movie! Not only is it beautiful -- with the characters travelling through Europe in the first half, and then going to a small Punjabi village in the second half -- it also showcases Indian culture to its fullest. Your kids will be able to see everything that makes India fun and exciting -- fields of flowers, feeding pigeons, a shaadi-ka-ghar (an Indian wedding) and more.
It will also be relatable for your children. It is, afterall, not too different from your own children’s lives of living abroad and going back to India to visit.
NOTE - There is a rather harsh fight scene at the end that can be fast-forwarded if needed! (be ready to fast forward at 3:02:20)
2. Hichki
An inspiring movie about a woman with Tourette Syndrome, who dreams of becoming a full time teacher. When she is finally hired on as a teacher, she is given a group of mischievous, students who keep her hands full. With patience, love and a can-do attitude, she teaches the kids to believe in themselves and reach their full potential.
3. Dil Bole Hadippa
Girls can do anything! A movie with a great message for both boys and girls. The movie follows a young woman who dreams of being a cricketer. She decides to dress like a man to get a chance to play on the men’s team and chaos ensues. A sports movie that has lots of laughs and great songs -- watch out for my favorite song “Discovaale Khisko!”
4. Rab ne Bana di Jodi
This movie is about a very shy and simple man named Surinder who marries a young woman named Taani whose father passes away, whom he loves very much, but she's sad to notice his feelings.
To make her smile again, Surinder secretly transforms himself into a fun, stylish man called “Raj” and joins her in a dance competition. Taani doesn’t realize Raj and Surinder are the same person! Through dance, fun, and kindness, she slowly learns the meaning of true love.
Parent note: The film is lighthearted with music, comedy, and romance—no inappropriate content, but younger kids may need help understanding the double identity and marriage theme.
5. Dhoom
One of the first ever big budget Hindi action films -- this movie follows a high-tech motorcycle gang of robbers, who are being chased by the police. Starring John Abraham and Abhishek Bacchan, the film has style, car chase scenes and intricately planned robberies. A nice break from the typical Bollywood romance -- your kids might even get a kick out of the comic relief (Uday Chopra) who plays sidekick to the serious Abhishek Bacchan.
6. Ta Ra Rum Pum
The story is about Rajveer (RV), a race car driver who is fast and fearless. He marries Radhika, and they have two kids, Priya and Ranveer. Life is happy until RV has an accident and can’t race anymore. The family loses money; facing many challenges.
But together, they learn to stay strong, never give up, and love each other no matter what. In the end, RV finds a way to race again, and the family gets their happy life back!
Parent note: The movie is fun with cars, music, and family love. There are some sad parts (an accident, money struggles), but the message is positive—about hope, courage, and sticking together.
7. Chak De India
Another fantastic sports movie about the Women’s Indian Field Hockey team, starring Shah Rukh Khan as the coach. The movie has a band of amazing sports women, with large entertaining personalities, all from different backgrounds coming together and working as a team. A true underdog story, the team goes from no hope of winning to the playoffs! This movie is short too -- at just 2.5 hours!
8. Dil Toh Pagal Hai
Another 90s “superhit” film! Dil Toh Pagal Hai has modern dancing in its forefront. Shah Rukh Khan and Karishma Kapoor play famous dancers who put on high-budget shows. They are in need of a new actress/dancer for their upcoming production -- and they find Madhuri Dixit. A love triangle emerges with the backdrop of beautiful catchy music and fantastic dances.
9. Mere Brother ki Dulhan
Kush’s brother decides to have an arranged marriage, and Kush is given the job of finding the perfect bride. He finds Dimple, a fun, free-spirited girl who is chosen as his brother’s fiancée. But while planning the wedding, Kush and Dimple spend time together and realize they have actually fallen in love!
In the end, with honesty and laughter, the families agree that Kush and Dimple are meant for each other.
Parent note: The movie is light, funny, and full of songs. The main theme is about love, arranged marriage, and being true to yourself—no content unsuitable for kids.
10. Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic
Great for kids -- this movie is a mix of Mary Poppins and the older Bollywood movie “Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke.” When their parents die, four children are adopted by a wealthy businessman (Saif Ali Khan) and are miserable. They pray that someone comes and saves them from the situation and a fairy/angel comes down to help in the form of Rani Mukherji. This one has lots of fun kid antics, magic and loads of humor!
