Who Is... Shah Rukh Khan? (Introducing our “Indian Culture Explained ... In Hindi” Series!)

For the past few years, I wanted to expand Hindi By Reena by not only creating more immersive all-Hindi videos, but also finding ways to discuss meaningful aspects of Indian and South Asian culture. And for our first video in this new Hindi series, we’re covering the biggest, and coolest, topic of all: Shah Rukh Khan.

In our house, “King Khan” is a very big deal. My four-year-old daughter loves watching Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, and whenever one of his songs comes on in the car, she perks up and shouts: “Shah Rukh Khan! Shah Rukh Khan!” So when I started brainstorming Indian and South Asian topics for this new series, there was no question about where to begin.

The real reason I’m so excited to introduce these videos is the immersive approach. Our presenter speaks entirely in Hindi. Will your child understand every word? Probably not - and that’s okay. Along the way, they’ll pick up key vocabulary, start connecting context clues, and get familiar with the rhythm and structure of spoken Hindi. Immersion is one of the most powerful tools in any language-learning journey, especially for kids growing up outside South Asia.

This Shah Rukh Khan video is just the beginning. The rest of the “What Is…?” series is available on our Hindi Learning Online Platform and includes topics like What is a Shaadi?, What Are Indian Clothes?, and What is Chaat? Each video blends culture, language, and curiosity in a way that’s engaging and accessible.

Beyond this series, our Hindi Learning Online Platform includes even more all-Hindi immersion videos, including sing-along songs, bedtime stories, and Bollywood dance lessons.

If you’re looking for even more immersion ideas, be sure to check out our list of Hindi films currently streaming on Amazon Prime and Netflix. Movie night is a wonderful way to spend time together while naturally introducing Hindi into your home.
