Our newest launch! “Hindi By Reena Hindi Bedtime Stories” on Spotify

I think there is a general understanding in today’s world that bilingualism comes best to a child who starts early. The earlier a child hears the target language around them, the faster they will pick it up.

With Hindi in particular, the issue for me as a mom was always finding the appropriate materials that I need to make this possible.

When my daughter was a little baby, I didn’t want her to have screen time, so I would talk in Hindi incessantly. I would pick a family member, and tell her as much as I could about them over and over, and narrate everything we would do – diapers, bath, walks everything. Other times when I was tired, (which let’s be honest, was often) I would play songs and podcasts for her in Hindi. Sadly, I found very few appropriate Hindi podcasts for children.

Long story short, this is where I came up with the idea of putting my “Hindi Bedtime Stories” on Spotify, Apple Music and more.

Already a part of my Yearly Membership Program, these bedtime stories were, until now, only available to Hindi program members. But now, starting this month, they are available for free on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and anywhere you listen to podcasts.

Here are some details about our new Hindi Bedtime Stories!

1. Gives children exposure to Hindi/Urdu, with stories they are already familiar with

As parents and grandparents, sometimes we focus only on speaking in the target language – but exposure to the language is equally as important. Living outside of the subcontinent, this is sometimes the hardest thing to get for children.

To make it even easier on you, we translated classic, popular stories your children are already familiar with.

If your child is older, they will likely already know the stories included – like Goldielocks and The Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs, The Little Red Riding Hood, The Tortoise and the Hare & more.

Because they can already follow the story – kids can easily focus on the language and pick up new words and phrases along the way.

2. We use simple conversational Hindi avoiding “shudh Hindi” words that are rarely used in day-to-day life.

There are so many Hindi stories available online that use words which will never be useful to your child. Our unique translations make sure to use simple, conversational words they will encounter again and again.

3. It is perfect for young babies and infants who do not speak yet.

When your child is a baby – it is the golden time to get in as much exposure to the language as you possibly can. You can play these stories in the background while the baby is bathing, changing diapers, playing and of course going to bed.

At this stage, babies are easily differentiating between sounds and languages – and gives them a higher chance of being able to speak the language as they grow.

4. These stories are appropriate for children!

I don’t know when the last time it was that you read traditional Hindi language stories from the subcontinent, but sometimes they can be a tad violent and inappropriate for today’s sentiments (a beheading here, or a derogatory skin-color comment there haha). These stories have been carefully vetted and are completely appropriate for all ages!

5. The Hindi By Reena Hindi Bedtime Stories” are easily accessible and free:)

Find these stories on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and more.

I truly hope these tales become a meaningful way to help you pass Hindi/Urdu down to your child!
